Clues That Indicate Your Furnace May Need A Professional Repair

It is important to make sure that you are well aware of the signs that may indicate that your furnace is in need of repairs from a professional HVAC contractor. To help you recognize these clues, you will want to take a few minutes to review the following points.

Lots Of Loud Banging Sounds

Your furnace should not make enough noise to startle you from your sleep. It also should not make so much noise that you wonder if it is falling apart. Of course, even the best furnace out there can make a small sound when it first kicks on, but it should not be incredibly loud. It should also stop at that. If you notice that the noise that the furnace makes when it kicks on is getting a lot louder or that it is making noises more often than normal, you will want to call in an HVAC technician. There are a few things that it could be, such as a fan belt that is starting to come off or the motor itself could be starting to lock up.

The Flame Is No Longer Blue

If you have a propane or natural gas furnace, you will have a pilot light that you will want to keep an eye on. It should burn a steady blue color if the pilot light is burning clean. However, if the pilot light is dirty or if there is not enough oxygen burning with the fuel, then the light can become yellow in color. If it is yellow, you will want to turn off the furnace until an HVAC contractor takes a look at it. The last thing you want to do is to allow a pilot light to continue to burn yellow, as it could begin to put off carbon monoxide in the air, which is a very deadly gas.

You Smell Something Burning

Do not make the mistake of ignoring a burning smell simply because the furnace is still working and you do not see any smoke or flames. There are a couple of problems that could cause the burning smell, one of which is very dangerous. If any of the wires within the furnace are starting to short out, they could begin to burn a little and are at risk of catching fire. Then again, it might simply be that a belt within the furnace is catching on something.

With those few clues in mind, you should have no problem making sure to call a heater repair technician as soon as it is needed.. This way, you will not have to worry as much about finding yourself with a broken furnace in the middle of winter. To find out more, speak with a business like Childers Enterprises Inc.
